International Workshop on space-based internet of things
(S-IoTs 2018)
November 17/18, 2018, joint with IoTaaS 2018, Xi’an, China
The existing architecture of Internet of things (IoTs) faces the problem of mismatch between service supports and user demands under the scenarios of large coverage, cross-region and harsh environment. Therefore, in recent years, the space-based IoTs (S-IoTs), enabling to provide broad coverage connection through the space-based information network, has been proposed by the academia and industry. The S-IoTs mainly consists of three layers: the sensing layer, the application layer, and the network layer. Sensing layer tries to collect and locate the events and data in the physical world, including various physical quantities, signs, images, audio, video, etc. Application layer is the interface between S-IoTs and users. Combined with industry needs, it achieves the intelligent applications of S-IoTs, such as intelligent logistics, intelligent military, environmental detection, intelligent power, etc. Network layer consists of access unit, space-based transmission network, and the cloud based space/ground processing platform. It is responsible for transmitting and processing the information obtained by the sensing layer.
S-IoTs is an important component and extension of the IoTs. It extends the coverage of the IoTs, and improves the economy and reliability of the IoTs industry effectively. The key technologies and standardization of S-IoTs are the beginning of researching. In this workshop, we are particularly interested in high quality contributions and innovations in the interdisciplinary area of space-based internet of things, including but not limited to the topics of interest listed below:
- System architecture for S-IoTs
- Space-air-ground integrated networking
